Are you protected from the most common natural disaster in the United States? If you don’t have flood insurance, then you are at risk since flooding is not covered under homeowner’s insurance policies.
Even if you live in a moderate- to low-risk flood zone, having flood insurance protection is a smart idea and one that could give you peace of mind should disaster strike. In fact, most flood insurance claims come from outside high-risk flood zones.
But you can get protection through our agency and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The NFIP aims to reduce the impact of flooding on property owners and extend them affordable coverage. Preferred risk policies start at $179 per year. A 30-day waiting period is enforced before flood protection begins.
Flood insurance policies cover building and contents, but there are specific exclusions they do not cover, including:
- Damage caused by moisture, mildew or mold that the property owner could have avoided or not caused by the flood
- Additional living expenses while the home is repaired
- Property and belongings outside the building, such as trees, plants, decks, patios, fences, hot tubs and swimming pools
